What is Reflexology?

Reflexology can be many things to many people. But it is not a foot massage. Reflexology is a precise complementary therapy, not to be confused with beauty treatment. Nor thought of as an alternative to conventional medicine, but as a support to any medical treatment being received.

Reflexologists believe that the feet reflect the body and that all the organs and glands are represented somewhere on the feet. By applying gentle pressure to the feet in an accurate and well formulated manner we believe that we are working indirectly with each and every area of the body. By doing so our aim is to help create the conditions in which our clients own powerful healing system can work to the best of its ability.

With Reflexology all aspects of the client are taken into account to help with overall well-being. Put simply holistic means 'whole'. You have probably heard the expression 'Mind, Body and Spirit', and it easily follows that if the physical body is unwell or in pain, for example if you were suffering from migraine, then the mind will not be as sharp as you might wish and your spirits will be low as a result.

Reflexologists therefore believe that your treatment should always be holistic in order to maintain a balance in these interlinked areas. To a reflexologist each and every area, organ and gland of the body is reflected somewhere in the feet. By applying gentle finger and thumb pressure to work with these reflexes, any imbalances will be felt by the skilled practitioner and in this way they are able to discover which are in need of particular attention. By using these special skills the reflexologist helps to return the body's systems to a natural state of balance, working together at their best, and encouraging the recipients own natural healing capabilities. At the end of your treatment your reflexologist will be able to advise you as to a suitable course of treatment.

However, please do not expect a reflexologist to diagnose. It is strictly against our code of ethics to do so. Reflexology may reduce stress by helping a client to relax, and it is thought that over 80% of ilnesses can be related to stress; it may improve the circulation therefore helping in cleansing the body of toxins. It may be particularly helpful in the complementary treatment of recurring and long-term conditions. Reflexology, in the hands of a properly qualified practitioner, a professional reflexologist, is perhaps the most powerful of all complementary therapies, and whilst no properly qualified reflexologist will ever claim to cure, experience shows that very positive health benefits may be gained through the use of this therapy.

VRT Vertical Reflex Therapy

VRT, Created by Lynne Booth, is a further development of reflexology that is ideal for anyone. It involves working mainly on the dorsal (top) of the feet and the client stands, or leans forward when seated, for part of the treatment. VRT will be incorporated, as appropriate, into a normal reflexology treatment.

While many people use reflexology as a way of relaxing the mind and body and counteracting stress, at the same time many doctors, consultants and other health care professionals recognise reflexology as a well established, respected and effective therapy.

  • 'I leave each session feeling happier, healthier and more relaxed'.
    J.B. Stafford
  • 'Reflexology is now a way of life for me. It's like chocolate - I can't live without it! Not only has it helped me become pregnant, but it has made me more aware of my own wellbeing'.
    C.B. Stone

  • I would highly recommend reflexology as a treatment and Caroline as a practitioner, if you are struggling to conceive or simply to improve your health during pregnancy. I still visit Caroline every 6 weeks even now, (Louis born 2011) because the treatment is so relaxing and leaves me with an enormous sense of well being!      K.H.  Stafford - Jan 2012

Eyes feel brighter, hip not hurting as much when I get onto my bike,  great nights sleep last night and actually feeling a bit more energised and focussed. I also couldn't stop giggling yesterday when I got home - just felt all round much happier. Very weird, but very welcome.   J.H. June 2011

    Treatment Information

The first appointment

On the first visit, we will have a preliminary talk with you to determine your present and past health and lifestyle. A full treatment will follow and usually lasts about one hour and a quarter. A course of treatment may be recommended depending on your bodys needs.

Subsequent treatments normally take one hour.

Number of treatments?

The number of treatments needed usually depends on how long your body has been out of balance, however, some people simply require a periodic treatment.

How will I feel after a treatment?

After one or two treatments your body may respond in a very definite way. Most people note a sense of well-being and relaxation; sometimes people report feeling lethargic, nauseous, or tearful, but this is transitory and is a part of the healing process.

This is vital infomation to feed back to the practitioner as it shows how your body is responding to treatment. This will help Caroline to tailor a treatment plan specific to your needs.
